Opening To The Flow Of Life- In All Its Grace And Wonder

Happy Spring.

I hope you are all enjoying the blossoming of life around you. It’s so green and beautiful here on Vancouver Island, and nature is just bursting forth with so much beauty! I can’t believe that I haven’t shared in so long. It’s been a time of great growth for me (for us all I know), and I haven’t made the space to connect in this way. This may change, as I am trying to write and connect more with my global community and many of you are not on facebook, perhaps the newsletters will be shorter, but more frequent. There will also be some exciting news to come in the months ahead as I share some of the evolving flow of my service here in this world.

For the time being though- what a ride we are on! Wow.. Life is just amazing, in all its experiences, as challenging as they may be. I hope that wherever you are, that you are blessed in your health, surrounded by your family and held in the support of nature. Know you are loved.


Going With The Flow

The river of life winds through the landscape of our lives, carving out the most momentous opportunities, in ways we could never expect or plan for.


I have been thinking about this a lot lately. It’s a true gift to be in the flow of life, allowing it to take you to each next step. That’s probably why I like travelling so much, as you wind up in the most miraculous places and meet the most amazing beings. And yet…the flow is in every moment, in every space, in every connection. It is the essential nature of life itself.


As I contemplate this energy and its presence in the day to day, I smile as I notice how much I struggle against its natural currents. Or how sometimes I feel like I am held in place, treading water, and yet, change is present, the flow continues, always moving. There is flow in everything. The one thing that is constant is change in this never ending flow of life.


This past year for example, on so many levels it feels like we have been in a standstill, ok, maybe a giant whirlpool, and yet there truly has been so much movement.


I reflect on the amount of shifts that I have experienced in this past year. Every part of my life is different, from the foundation up. I have been immolated in the fire of initiation, and am still awakening from it, not yet ready to fly. I would be as bold to say that every key area of my life and being has been touched and changed fundamentally in some profound way, in ways that I could never have imagined, and would probably never have chosen, and yet so it is. So I rise, so I allow this tidal wave of life to move me.


I know I am not alone in this, I know many of us have been dancing in the flames together, being reforged for our next steps, letting go of that which is old, and opening to that which is not birthed yet. We are part of the wave of the new world. We are the ones we have been waiting for, and the time truly is now, as cheesy as it sounds.


Yes my human self would rather be travelling the world, sleeping on sacred beaches, dancing free in the wind, and connecting with my global community in person- feeling freedom in each beautiful breath. And yet here we are in this moment, in a flow of change and birth that is bigger than anything we have encountered in this lifetime, and it’s magic, even in its moments of darkness and uncertainty.

This is the flow, this is life, and this is what we came for. So in this moment, I honour each of you as a spark of the divine, and am so grateful for your presence, we are all in this together. Connected in a global family, to grow, to change, to support, and to open our wings as we rise from this fire of great metamorphosis together.


Recipe- Sauteed Spring Greens

I love springtime- It awakens my body and my spirit from the deep slumber of winter, and opens me up to the delight of new beginnings. The earth’s energy is so bright and alive, and my garden is full of life both in flowers, and with an abundance of spinach and kale. 😀

Energetically it’s a great time of year to eat green leafy foods, as their bitter taste cuts through any old heaviness, stimulating digestion and creating flow. They are also filled with fresh life energy of spring.

This is one of my favourite recipes at this time of year. It’s great with any type of greens and can be a side dish, or a main part of the meal with a grain and some protein.

Sautéed Greens
2 tsp ghee or oil
1/2 tsp turmeric
1 big bunch greens (chard, kale, spinach collard greens, nettles)
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
Juice of 1/2 lime

Wash and chop the greens coarsely and set aside. Heat the ghee/oil in a large skillet and add the turmeric and saute for 30 seconds. Add the greens, salt and pepper. Stir fry on high heat for about 3 minutes. Add 4 Tbs of water and place a tight-fitting lid and steam for about 5 minutes. Take of heat and add lime juice. Serve warm

Medical Qi Gong Exercise
Old Man And The Pearl

As many of you know I have been taking the first year of a 4 year Medical Qi Gong Program. It has been amazing journey so far- it’s a course of energy medicine rooted in Daoist Shamanism, and I am already weaving its powerful practices into my client work.


In the course we are not only learning to work with people by distance and in person through deep energy sessions, but we are also learning to teach exercises that support well being and health in the body, working with the 5 element system. I thought I would share with you one of my favourite exercises- The Old Man And The Reflection Of The Moon At the Bottom of The Tide Pool. This practice releases stagnancy, grief and opens the heart to its innate Joy, using sound, visualization and gentle movement.


We also bring down the heavens to support our nervous system, and reset our Wei Qi Fields.

Happy Solstice- The Light Of The World Is Us

Solstice Blessings Beautiful Beings,

Today is the day of the long dark night, that heralds the coming of the light. A day to turn inward, to reflect and to open to both the velvety richness of the shadow, as well as to the radiance of the brightest star. A day for intention setting, for reflection, and for honouring both the Yin and the Yang that makes up this perfect divine masterpiece of life that we are living in. This year is even more potent of an opportunity to really dive into our inner awareness, and to pay attention to what is wanting to birth through us, even if it is still unknown.

As many of you know, today is also the grand conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in the Western Zodiac sign of Aquarius, which many astrologers say is a birthing of a new age, and an opening into the energy of tremendous transformation. So take care today to plant your seeds, to really open yourself in your intention settings to your wildest dreams, and to trust fully what is singing through your heart. Know the universe has your back, and that your soul is longing to both remember and live the life that it has incarnated for.

I would invite you to take some time today to go inward, and to really sit with your highest desires. To trust that your soul is part of this great awakening, and that we can create and manifest our dreams for the greatest good of all.

Envision and ask the universe to support the unfolding of your path for it’s highest well being, and imagine the world and our beautiful family of collective humanity coming together in peace, love, harmony and acceptance. Ask for the abundance of your gifts to be able to be shared in the world, and see those gifts coming to fruition in a way that feels in alignment with your purest truth. And of course invite your heart to trust, to open, and to be the guide that will take you exactly where you need to go.

Invite your mind to melt like ice, rooting you into the grounded earth, so that you truly can move from your greatest potential, and step into all that you have been born for- in work, in community, in love, and in everything. Now is the time, and today is a potent day to embrace and speak clearly our highest intentions. There are also many global meditations happening today between 10-11am PST. Whether you join in one, or meditate on your own, it’s a potent time to tap into the brightness of the light, and the birthing of all that is.

Enjoy this beautiful day, and trust in the magic of all that has been, all that you are, and all that will be.


The Brightest star

I was inspired to share a short guided mediation drawing us into an experience of our own light and connecting us to the brilliance of your own personal star. I also share a bit about embracing the beautiful unknown, and the evolution of our consciousness and we open to the grace of becoming.


Recipe

I thought I would share with you one of my favourite winter chutney’s. It’s perfect at this time of year when the pomegranates are in season. Sweet and gently warming, it balances vata, while bringing a sense of nourishment to the heart and spirit.

Pomegranate Fig Chutney

  • 1 Tbs Ghee or Coconut Oil
  • 1 ½ Tbs Fresh Grated Ginger
  • ½ Cup Chopped Dried Figs
  • Juice of ½ a Lime
  • 1/8 tsp cloves
  • ¼ tsp allspice
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 – 1 ½ Cup Pomegranate Seeds
  • ½ Cup Fresh Pomegranate Juice ( Made by blending equal parts pomegranate seeds and water, then straining)
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

 Directions

  1. Heat the ghee in a small saucepan
  2. Add ginger, figs, lime, pomegranate juice, and spices
  3. Cook for 10 minutes at medium low heat, so that the sugars from the figs start to caramalize
  4. Add extra pomegranate juice if necessary
  5. Combine with the pomegranate seeds
  6. Season with salt and pepper and leave to cool

Riding The Wave Of Becoming

Namaste Beautiful Beings

Wow. What a year it has been- riding the waves of transformation, change and the great unknown. It’s truly an amazing time to be alive, and yet it’s not so comfortable is it?

I hope that where ever you are, you are finding breath in each moment, and taking time to allow, acknowledge and be whatever your truth is in each day. Here in BC, I am well, going through my own internal transformations. Fires are lit and are burning away that which is no longer needed, yet the outer physical world surrounding me is stable and supportive as always. I have started a year long Medical Qi Gong Training, that is so fascinating, and opening doors for greater growth and expansion in my practice and my life. Very inspiring and perfect timing.


Riding The Wave

Life- What an adventure it is, especially right now. It feels like we are in the midst of a blockbuster movie, one that is keeping us on the edges of our seats, and isn’t near to being over yet. There seems to be no certainty in anything right now, and each of us is being forced to trust in that unknown. It’s almost like free falling into a space that hasn’t been birthed yet. A space that is calling us forward, and inviting to open to it without knowing where it will lead us.

In my journey, this is where much of my challenge and my growth lies, in bowing down to the unconditional support and knowing of the divine. I have realized over the past four months, as my heart has been opening beyond my imagination, that the invitation has been to not control the outcome or the path of it’s movement. In this time, I have been shown how impatient I am, how much I like to “know” things, and also how hard it is for me to just hand it over to the universe. It’s been very humbling, and has also reminded me how human I really am. Like we all are.

So what do we do with this foundation shaking energy that most of us are feeling in our lives in some way right now? How do we integrate all of the changes, or stay comfortable with the foundations falling away, with no clear path ahead in sight?

It’s simple really. We allow it, we trust it, and we feel it all. It’s not time to start binge watching netflix, or to sit on the computer for hours. It’s time to turn our awareness to what is calling for attention. To work on bringing compassion, wholeness and acceptance to ourselves, which it turn will radiate out into the entire world.

We have this idea that we are supposed to be happy all the time, or be able to figure everything out. There is grace in the unknown, there is grace in the suffering, there is grace in everything. Just like a birth (which really we are in right now), once labour starts- we can’t go back, the only way out is through. What we can do is take each breath as it comes, and allow ourselves to feel into the places in our body and our energy system that are holding the old patterns, the deep conditioning and the emotional energy that is breaking down, and showing us our path of evolution. Things are being blown up for a reason, and we don’t need to know the why, all we can open to is the truth of our hearts, the truth of each moment and ride the wave as it takes us exactly where we need to go. We are the ones we have been waiting for, and the time is now. Allow, Trust and Believe.


Wei Qi Field Meditation

What a time to be alive. So amazing, and yet so uncomfortable. I hope you enjoy a short meditation that can help you create a grounded and settled space to be in your body, and in your own energy field.


Recipe- Date Milkshake

There is nothing more nourishing for our nervous system than a warm milky drink. As we ride these waves of transformation and change, taking care of the physical temple of our body is so important. Sweet flavour in a creamy, grounding drink, brings us right home. It also nourishes our beautiful heart, which for many of us is needing extra love and attention right now.

Date Shake Recipe

  • 4-5 whole dates, pitted (Medjool variety or similar is best and soaking dates beforehand can help blend into a smoother consistency)
  • 1 ½ cups raw organic cow milk. Can substitute almond milk or almond/coconut mix.
  • 2 pinches cinnamon powder

Boil milk until it foams once. Turn off the heat. Let it cool until drinkable. Place the milk, cinnamon and dates in a blender and blend until dates are ground fine. 

Preparation is a big part of this recipe. Taking time to lovingly make this delicious drink, maybe even saying a prayer or blessing the food as you cook, will add to its nurturance. 

Serve warm in the winter, room temperature or slightly cool (not cold) in the summer or if a strong pitta imbalance (heat or inflammation in the body). 

Add Ons: 

  • 1/2 teaspoon. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 c. shredded unsweetened coconut
  • Pinch of cardamom, saffron or raw grated ginger

  2. Great source or protein, calcium, iron and other nutrients
  3. Energizing 
  4. Ojas increasing, full of energy

Life Breathes Through Us

Namaste Beautiful Beings,

I hope you are all well as we start to slip into fall. These interesting times of life continue, and there is no better time to step into the gentle cocoon of settled awareness, taking time to slow down, to tune in and to really honour your needs. In Ayurveda we are just entering into Vata season. A time of slowing down, cocooning into the warm web of our self care practices, and the nourishment of warm food. It’s even more important at these wild times to slow down, to tune into to your truth and your needs, and to trust completely in the life that is wanting to live through you. As old structures and foundations crumble we are being invited to truly be part of the birthing of a new life. In being attuned to our authentic and full experience of truth, we can help be part of these beautiful birthing that is occurring for us all right now.


Awakening From The Dream

We are being called to awaken from the dream and to remember the truth of all that we are. In doing so, not only do we open to greater grace and understanding in ourselves, but we also help to support the transformation and the healing of the collective consciousness.

Part of this awakening process is understanding that we are multi-dimensional beings, and that what we bring attention to both grows and flows. That energy is both limitless and timeless, and that life is not a finite, structured path that keeps us tightly bound.

I invite you to trust which doesn’t seem possible. To believe in the truth of a conscious earth the breathes through us. To notice the colours, the dreams, the brilliance of the stars speaking within you. To be curious about the possibility that when you feel the hug of your loved one, thousands of miles away, that it’s not imagination, but a real embrace. And to open to the possibility that what you sense and feel that is unexplainable is real. That time is not linear, that life is not so structured, and that magic does happen. It’s who we are .

The Awakening Heart

Namaste Beautiful Beings,

I hope you are all well and finding some joy and sunshine wherever you may be this summer season. The journey of this world keeps unfolding for us all, and each day offers a continued opportunity to tune into the here and now, instead of the mental activity of the monkey mind. It’s been a powerful month with the 8/8 Lions Gate Activation, and a New Moon in Leo. Lots of opportunity for courage, strength, playfulness, and opening into the heart of our being.

That is what I wanted to open to today. The energy of our pure and courageous heart. The space in our body and being, that is not only the transmitter and receiver of pure love, but the integration point of heaven and earth coming together as one. The space that naturally resonates with an energy of acceptance, of compassion and of deep trust.


Opening To Your Heart Light

Right now, more than ever, we are being invited to take time to recognize that we do not need to live in our mind, and that falling into the support of the heart is a powerful gift that is inherent in our birthright.

When things started to fall apart this spring, we heard the phrase “We are all in this together” and it brought a sense of global community and connection, and now it often feels reading the news, or when we are out in the world that the togetherness is no longer as apparent. The seams are splitting, and the camps are separating.

Well, we are still all in this together. Each one of us with different beliefs, ideas, experiences, and ideas of what the right path or way is. What if we had an opportunity in each moment, to go back to that sense of connected community, and remember that we are all one? That we each have our own story, and in that story each one of us are doing the best that we can.

This is easy, when we are moving from that space of heart centred awareness. A space where we rest in the divine truth of connection, and give ourselves space to feel and experience from a grounded and open state of being. Sounds simple doesn’t it? It’s not always, especially when the nervous system is in overdrive, and we are functioning with years of patterning from moving from the mind.

So how do we start to come into a more connected space of Heart Centred Awareness?

Here are some fun and easy tools to connect with the heart, and to effortlessly allow ourselves to find space to rest there more naturally. With daily acknowledgement and awareness it truly just becomes easy to move from the space of the heart and not the mind.

  • Breathe- It’s so easy. We do it all the time. We can’t live without breath. So what is it like to take a few conscious deep breaths? Try it. Maybe take a big beautiful inhale in, and then exhale out through your mouth a few times. See what that feels like. Fall into your body. Then maybe take a breath or two in and out through your nostrils, slowly and deeply and see how you feel. You may notice you are already more connected to your body. More present in the heart.
  • Awareness- What is it like to bring your mind to your heart centre. The Anahata Chakra. Centre of the Chest. Close your eyes. Take a breath. Feel what is there, maybe noticing what is on the surface. Or perhaps feeling the heart beat. Maybe feeling a lightness, or a heaviness, or something totally unique to you. Try it. See what you notice.
  • Touch- Place your hands on this beautiful centre. One palm over the other. Feel the grounding energy of your palms touching your skin. Maybe massage in a circular motion or just keep your hands there. Explore the breath there, at the same time that your hands are there. Notice the sensation, notice how it feels.
  • Imagination/Intuition– What would it be like to be able to give the heart what it needs? What would it be to trust in its unique voice? Imagine and open to the idea that it could share with you. Ask if it were a flower what flower would it be? How bright would it blossom? And imagine or allow that flower to take shape. Maybe over the next few days go back to it, water it. Nourish it.
  • Gratitude– As always Gratitude. It is truly the language of the heart. What are you thankful for in this moment? What would it be like to express that from your heart? Maybe even to give gratitude to your beautiful heart, to your beautiful self, to those things that light you up, and to those things that challenge you. Try this daily maybe with your palms on the heart centre, feeling the heart blossom and opening to the divine truth of your nature.

Have fun with these practices- they can be done all together, or one at a time. And know that coming into the heart isn’t about spiritual bypassing the emotions, or the fear, or the likes/dislikes. It’s important to feel and honour everything, but as we live from heart centre, we also live in a place of connection, and of compassion, even to those things we do not understand. Allow your heart to be as courageous and as gentle as the lions. So big, so open, so vibrant, and so magnificent, just in the resonance of it’s being.

Every September I am blessed to begin a 7 month journey of deep personal growth, awakening and transformation with a select group of individuals that are ready to take the next step on their journey.

This course is designed to support the growth of the student in their own practice, so that through their own experience they will be able to support their clients and communities. Each month is a journey of connection with a chakra energy centre, and has a theme that both supports healing and creates balance on all layers- body, mind and spirit. We will be learning to work with clients one on one as well as to share group Healing Light Yoga (Pranic Healing Courses). It is through our own experience and practice, that we will fully embody and integrate the gifts of this training, allowing us to truly be able to serve others. 

This course is wonderful for people already practicing in the Healing Arts, and for those who are just starting out. It’s also wonderful for those who are just desiring to grow in the light of their consciousness. I made a little video with more info –

I am so excited to announce that for the month’s of July and August, my Wednesday Hatha classes will be outside at the beautiful Centennial Park In Downtown Duncan. There is lots of shade, and it’s beautiful with an orchard and community garden, and lots of green space. What a wonderful way to practice together in community at this time. 

All Levels Are Welcome. 

Flow with your breath. Connect with your spirit. Move into your being. These classes are great for all levels of yogi, offering a challenge to those more experienced, yet very accessible to the beginner. Flowing at times, we learn to be with our breath, our body, and our thoughts as we melt into the asanas. Experiencing the moment, opening the heart and the mind, and accepting the energy of being where we are, at the same time creating strength, stamina, and flexibility. Always infused with spirit and bliss, and lots of smiles:) Yoga poses, pranayama, and relaxation are all experienced in these classes.


Best of all is the beautiful community of yogi’s to connect, grow and share with.

It’s Time To Fly

Namaste Beautiful Beings,

I hope you are well as we collectively ride the waves of these interesting times. Life is changing beneath our very feet, the foundations of everything we know are being shaken and reformed, and on many levels this is just the beginning. We are being reminded that it’s not time to hide, or stay safe. We are being called to remember who it is we are, and what it is we stand for. We are being asked to open to all of our experiences of our fears, our joys, our desires and our greatest truth. There truly is no place to hide from the stirring of the world, it’s in our face every day. And while this is certainly profound, it’s not always comfortable, especially with no known clear pathway to what’s next.

What if that pathway is in each moment? What if it’s in listening to the beating of your heart and the inspiration of your spirit? What if it’s in letting go of needing to know, and allowing the wave of life to guide you? What if it starts by paying attention to what you need, to who you are, and to what wants to be spoken and lived through you? What if you are just as much a part of nature as the trees, the birds, the sea, and the sky?

What would it be like right now- to open to the idea that there is something bigger happening here? Something that our beautiful and complex human brains cannot figure out, but something that is supporting us and calling us to pay attention to what truly is important to each of us on a foundational level.

This isn’t about spiritually bypassing all the pain, and suffering that many are going through. Perhaps it’s more about honouring all that is arising, and being part of the change. Doing our own work, honouring our own pain, our own truths (historical and current), and opening to a different way, not hiding from our past, but rising from it as the phoenix rises to fly in a different way. In this way, we truly can be an anchor for all the light that not just is coming in to support this growth, but of the light that we are, creating healing not just in ourselves but for the entire planet and collective consciousness at this time.

It doesn’t matter if the first steps of this new flight are baby steps. For some it will start by listening to your body, and making changes in alignment with your health’s highest needs. For others the steps will seem to be bigger, perhaps opening the door into a new career path or allowing the voice of expression to be loud and clear as the truth of spirit sings through you. We all are on our own journey, and none is better or worse, but we are being invited right now to pay attention, to stop hiding, and to both listen and trust to all that is unfolding.

Really it’s this is an amazing time to be alive. What an opportunity we have in every moment to be in a state of curiosity and the unknown. We always have known that we don’t know, and we always have had the idea that we really aren’t in control, and now we are being faced with this understanding in technicolour form. Not comfortable, not easy, especially with so much falling apart and being restructured, and yet it’s what’s happening. Together in consciousness, in peeling back the layers of all that has kept us “safe”, but held us back, we are truly part of a greater change.

Remember at this time, to take care- to nourish yourself, to connect with those you love, and to allow all and everything you are feeling (from fear, to grief, to anger, to joy, to love, to acceptance) to be felt and experienced. It’s all part of our process, and it’s all just perfect.


Recipes

Ginger Basil Limeade

This is one of my favourite summer recipes, especially when things heat up. As most of you know, I usually drink spiced warm water throughout the day, but sometimes in the summer, my body wants something cool and refreshing. This is a beautiful recipe that both keeps the digestive juices flowing, cools any excess heat, and brings a sweetness and a vitality to a hot summer afternoon. I usually don’t drink it iced, but cool.

I also like to drink room temperature filtered water with cucumber slices, and marshmallow flowers that marinate in it all day. So refreshing and silky smooth.

Ingredients-

  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup basil
  • 2 inches ginger
  • 1 whole lime
  • 2 TBS maple syrup or coconut sugar

Directions

1. Use a fine grater to make about 1 teaspoon of lime zest. Juice limes. Chop ginger into chunks. 

2. Add 1c water to a blender with ginger, lime juice, lime zest, raw sugar and a small handful of fresh basil leaves. Blend until smooth. 

3. Combine ginger-lime juice with an additional 3 cups of water in a pitcher. Garnish with fresh basil. Chill and serve.
