It’s Time To Fly

Namaste Beautiful Beings,

I hope you are well as we collectively ride the waves of these interesting times. Life is changing beneath our very feet, the foundations of everything we know are being shaken and reformed, and on many levels this is just the beginning. We are being reminded that it’s not time to hide, or stay safe. We are being called to remember who it is we are, and what it is we stand for. We are being asked to open to all of our experiences of our fears, our joys, our desires and our greatest truth. There truly is no place to hide from the stirring of the world, it’s in our face every day. And while this is certainly profound, it’s not always comfortable, especially with no known clear pathway to what’s next.

What if that pathway is in each moment? What if it’s in listening to the beating of your heart and the inspiration of your spirit? What if it’s in letting go of needing to know, and allowing the wave of life to guide you? What if it starts by paying attention to what you need, to who you are, and to what wants to be spoken and lived through you? What if you are just as much a part of nature as the trees, the birds, the sea, and the sky?

What would it be like right now- to open to the idea that there is something bigger happening here? Something that our beautiful and complex human brains cannot figure out, but something that is supporting us and calling us to pay attention to what truly is important to each of us on a foundational level.

This isn’t about spiritually bypassing all the pain, and suffering that many are going through. Perhaps it’s more about honouring all that is arising, and being part of the change. Doing our own work, honouring our own pain, our own truths (historical and current), and opening to a different way, not hiding from our past, but rising from it as the phoenix rises to fly in a different way. In this way, we truly can be an anchor for all the light that not just is coming in to support this growth, but of the light that we are, creating healing not just in ourselves but for the entire planet and collective consciousness at this time.

It doesn’t matter if the first steps of this new flight are baby steps. For some it will start by listening to your body, and making changes in alignment with your health’s highest needs. For others the steps will seem to be bigger, perhaps opening the door into a new career path or allowing the voice of expression to be loud and clear as the truth of spirit sings through you. We all are on our own journey, and none is better or worse, but we are being invited right now to pay attention, to stop hiding, and to both listen and trust to all that is unfolding.

Really it’s this is an amazing time to be alive. What an opportunity we have in every moment to be in a state of curiosity and the unknown. We always have known that we don’t know, and we always have had the idea that we really aren’t in control, and now we are being faced with this understanding in technicolour form. Not comfortable, not easy, especially with so much falling apart and being restructured, and yet it’s what’s happening. Together in consciousness, in peeling back the layers of all that has kept us “safe”, but held us back, we are truly part of a greater change.

Remember at this time, to take care- to nourish yourself, to connect with those you love, and to allow all and everything you are feeling (from fear, to grief, to anger, to joy, to love, to acceptance) to be felt and experienced. It’s all part of our process, and it’s all just perfect.


Recipes

Ginger Basil Limeade

This is one of my favourite summer recipes, especially when things heat up. As most of you know, I usually drink spiced warm water throughout the day, but sometimes in the summer, my body wants something cool and refreshing. This is a beautiful recipe that both keeps the digestive juices flowing, cools any excess heat, and brings a sweetness and a vitality to a hot summer afternoon. I usually don’t drink it iced, but cool.

I also like to drink room temperature filtered water with cucumber slices, and marshmallow flowers that marinate in it all day. So refreshing and silky smooth.

Ingredients-

  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup basil
  • 2 inches ginger
  • 1 whole lime
  • 2 TBS maple syrup or coconut sugar

Directions

1. Use a fine grater to make about 1 teaspoon of lime zest. Juice limes. Chop ginger into chunks. 

2. Add 1c water to a blender with ginger, lime juice, lime zest, raw sugar and a small handful of fresh basil leaves. Blend until smooth. 

3. Combine ginger-lime juice with an additional 3 cups of water in a pitcher. Garnish with fresh basil. Chill and serve.

Trust In The Unfolding

Hi Beautiful Beings,
I hope you are all well and settling into the flow of the moment. It’s been an interesting few months, a time filled with uncertainty and the unknown. This has not been comfortable for most of us, and yet has also offered us a great opportunity to step into deeper trust and to surrender to the larger flow of life. There is still so much unknown still, yet so much opportunity to be with ourselves, and all that arises. Not easy, and yet an important gift, to be present and experience our truth in each and every moment.

Spring is here inviting renewal, new birth and the beginning of a different season. In this blossoming, there is the opportunity to feel the support of nature, and to see its brilliance. There is nothing to do, but allow. There is nothing to accomplish. There truly is just being with what is. This is true whether you are blessed with a sacred pause, or whether life continues at a full pace. Some of us are inspired, others are tired and taking rest. I invite you to trust in your flow and don’t push past the truth of your being.

And most of all I invite you to trust in the unfolding.

Through my studies in Ayurveda I have learned to appreciate and love a different kind of yoga.  A yoga of union with our consciousness, of balance and of breath.   In the Ayurvedic Yoga classes we use a healing breath and direct that energy into our chakras and into the parts of our body that needs the most love.  The asanas are held a bit longer than in a traditional class, but are gentle and opening, creating balance and flow in the nadis (energy channels of the body).  In this way we get deeper than a regular asana class, we connect more fully with all the layers of our being, and we melt into the space of peace and relaxation.  Very restorative, very loving, and suitable for any level of yogi.

Worldwide Community Sangha- What A Blessing!

Hi Beautiful Beings,

Two emails in a row. Wow, these are interesting times for sure.

Today after sending my last email out I was invited by a a few of my students to share my weekly Hatha Yoga Class Online.  I listened, and it feels very right, and very exciting to come together on Wednesdays in a larger global community to share a beautiful spirit based practice.

These classes are all levels- and are fine for every body. That being said, it’s a soothing class, not a restorative class. We challenge ourselves, by settling and sinking into our physical being, and allowing ourselves to melt and be with what arises. I offer many adjustments, and even if you just lie on your back the entire time, that is perfect. For me these classes are a opportunity to be a channel for what wants to come through for the group, and so there is always a beautiful weaving of spirit dancing through each moment and each word. There is a powerful magic that happens when we come together in community, in practice and in deep surrender, and I am so excited and honoured to share with you all. And what better medicine is there than deep breathing?

  • Time- Wednesday’s Starting March 25, 4:30-6:00 PST/ 7:30-9:00 EST (I know this is late for you East Coasters- but it is a gentle practice that will nourish sleep)
  • Access- All classes are recorded and you will be sent a private youtube link to access if you miss the class or would just like to re take it.
  • Classes are online via zoom- an easy application to download, and beautiful to use. You can turn your camera off if you don’t want to be seen.

A Path Awakening, A Gateway Opening

Namaste Beautiful Beings,

How are you?

A big question I know, and one that probably doesn’t have an easy answer. What a crazy, interesting and unprecedented time this is. A time that really has no clear answers and no clear direction of what may come over the next few weeks, in fact the only clarity that seems to be present  is that we must take the time to slow down, settle in and and be with ourselves.  Not an easy task for many, especially with so much uncertainty, yet a beautiful opportunity to give space to all that is arising. As we allow things to bubble (or perhaps flood is a better word), to the surface we are given the gifts to be embraced by the energy and emotions present, as well as to acknowledge them with understanding and grace. Feeling it all, yet not moving from those feelings, and perhaps most of all opening to a greater trust in all that is, even if we don’t know what that will be.

If things intensify over the next few weeks, as I sense they will, I invite you to take time to tune into your self. To honour what comes up, and yet to not move from any source of fear or uncertainty.  Take time to breathe. To be connected with your loved ones. To go outside and feel the earth underneath your feet. To meditate. To Smile. To Allow. And know you are not alone. Know you are held.  Know that you are part of a larger global community, and we are all being invited to slow down and step into a greater place of acceptance, of trust and of love.

In the spirit of community, and to create space for us to come together as one,  I am creating a circle to meet on Tuesday afternoons, starting March 24th. More info is below.

 


Nature Heals

I was blessed to be in Hawaii over the past few weeks, such a gentle place to witness the tidal wave of energy quickly sweeping through us all.  One of the things that was very clear to me when I was there, was the ever present power and “rightness” of nature. The birds were singing, the flowers were blooming, and life was living itself through the animals, and natural intelligence of nature. It is an important reminder to myself, and I feel for us all.  That nature heals.  That nature is in balance. That nature is medicine. And most importantly we are part of nature. So over the next few weeks I invite you to take time in nature if you can. Even if it’s just sitting in your backyard and taking a few breaths of fresh air, perhaps a simple and slow walk in the forest, or looking at the moon out your window.  If it’s warm enough you could even step outside in your bare feet- total grounding, total connection.  This gives us the opportunity to tune into something much bigger then ourselves, and helps to not just soothe our spirits and bodies, but to remind us that all is well, that all is divine.

One of the ways that I am reminded of the magic and healing energy of nature is through my experiences swimming with the wild spinner dolphins in Hawaii. I was blessed to have 5 mornings with them over the last few weeks. They are so amazing as they reflect the pure love and strength of the connection to the underlying field, and the powerful strength of the tribe as they dance in openhearted joy and play.

My husband took this video on our first day in the water- about 4 days before things started to really change. There were about 75-100 dolphins that day reminding me that there is nothing, like being embraced by the power of pure nature and pure LOVE.

A Path Awakening, A Gateway Opening

It truly is an unprecedented time. A time that is not comfortable, a time that does not feel certain or safe, yet one that opens the door to us for to surrender into each and every moment.
Perhaps even more importantly it opens the door to for acceptance. Acceptance of the unknown, Acceptance of our feelings, Acceptance that all that we thought was safe, secure and necessary may not be so, and acceptance that all we can do right now is trust and go with the flow.
It’s a beautiful practice to be with. And one that is not comfortable.
And so I turn to gratitude. I am grateful to be given the opportunity to learn greater trust. I am grateful to be able to experience so many different feelings. I am grateful to be in connection with nature.  I am grateful to be aligned with the larger global community of you all- and all my friends/clients around the world. I am grateful to be able to be here now, experiencing such powerful times.
And I remember- The earth is singing- the dolphins are swimming, the air is breathing brightly as it has a break from industry, from airplanes, cars etc.. That all is more than well.
A recalibration is happening. A door is opening and a new path is being laid. I really believe this.  I am so curious to see where it will lead.

Permission To Rest

Happy New Year! I hope you are all well. I am. I always mean to take more time to check in with you all, and am so grateful when life allows me to do so.

After a very full year, it was lovely to have a two week break to step into a place of deep stillness and rest.  This time off brought a lot of insight regarding the importance of settling the nervous system, slowing down and taking time to just be.

 

Permission To Be

Things are moving at a tremendously fast and vibrant pace, life is constantly growing and evolving, both on the multidimensional level, and in the physical world. As humans, we are faced with so much unconscious pressure on our energy systems as we continue to expand, and work in the physical world, all while absorbing the effects of waves of energy worldwide. We seem to unconsciously get caught up in the doing, the working, or just the general excess energy of moving from moment to moment. Even if this energy is just showing up as thoughts, getting the list done or having the belief that we need to keep our creative output at a certain level.

What if, in slowing down, in giving permission to just be who we are in that moment, we could open to a space of deep nourishment? What if this permission would give room for inspiration to flow when the energy and time is right?

For those of us in the northern hemisphere we are in deep winter. Nature’s natural intelligence is inviting us to slow down and to honour it’s rhythms.  The darkness wants to embrace us in a big bear hug. What would it be like to accept that support and to sink into a space of deeper surrender?  It’s hard. I know.  Taking time for ourselves is often the first thing that we sacrifice to be of greater service to others, or perhaps even our purpose.  Yet there is a magical and simple thing that happens when we give ourselves permission to enjoy. Permission to leave some days on the schedule free.  Permission to do the things that we most desire to do (Even if it’s doing nothing, or watching a movie, or eating a decadent sweet meal).

When we open to this idea of trusting in what we need in the moment, instead of the list of things that needs to get done, the universe responds with a wave of nourishment that soothes the excess stress we unconsciously carry around. Now this might not happen the first time. It takes time for the nervous system to decompress, to “offgas” our learned habits and patterns. This may come in a wave of emotional release, or the mind speaking up loudly with all the things we need to do, but with practice it’s amazing to see what will open up.

After 2 weeks of sleeping in, having no agenda for the day, and doing what my being wanted (even if it was nothing), I started to notice creative inspiration flowing. It’s as if someone vacuumed out all the areas that  were pushing towards that creative output and service.  In the clear bright space left behind it allowed everything to unfold effortlessly, with the energy to bring it into fruition.

There is a time and a place for movement, and for action, even in the winter season, but that action doesn’t need to flow from the subconscious pressure on the energy system.  Action can instead be supported by a free flow of prana in a nourished and well centred being.  In doing less, in having space, we can actually accomplish more. It might not always be in the “timing” we would like, but there is an effortlessness and a grace to it, that is our birthright.  As the life that is here to move through us has permission to do so, it’s amazing what will open up.

I invite you to create some time for yourself, maybe an afternoon a week, or a whole day where you don’t schedule anything (not even a walk outside), and see what unfolds as you allow yourself to be curious about trusting, and handing yourself over to the natural support of nature.

Aloo Gobi

Who doesn’t love a good winter recipe. It’s the perfect time for soups and stews, and even some warmer, spicier meals. I have been exploring and experimenting with some different recipes, and this is one of my favourite. Yes, it uses onions and garlic, which is often something we avoid in Ayurveda, but at this cold time of year- can be so nourishing and bring us the warmth we need to ground and settle in. I use lots of fresh organic ginger, and paprika ground from peppers we grew in our garden last year. So yummy@

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil or ghee
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ½ teaspoon black mustard seeds.
  • 1 onion, diced
  • ½ – 1 Serrano pepper or green chili, minced
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons minced ginger
  • 2 medium potatoes or sweet potatoes (approx. 1 pound), cut into 1-inch pieces
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 cauliflower, cut into florets

Spices

  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne, adjust to taste
  • Cilantro, garnish

Directions

  1. Melt 2 tablespoons oil/ghee in a large sauté pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds.
  2. Once the seeds begin to splutter, add onions and stir frequently for for 5 minutes, or until they begin to brown.
  3. Add the potatoes and the remaining tablespoon of oil/ghee and continue to stir frequently for about 5 minutes.
  4. Add garlic, ginger, Serrano pepper and spices. Stir for a minute, then add the cauliflower.
  5. Mix well, add ¼ cup water then cover the pot with a lid. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for 10 minutes, stir, then cook for another 10 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
  6. Garnish with cilantro, serve.

Healing Light Yoga Therapy utilizes our consciousness (pure awareness) and the power of subtle intention to create balance on the physical, energetic, mental, emotional, karmic, and spiritual levels of life.

We will also open to  your own potential to heal and to connect with your subtle energy body. We will embrace and work with the cellular, emotional and energetic layers, opening the doors to a clear and potent awareness. At the same time you will explore and experience a deepening of your intuition and expanded self.

In these 6 weeks we will explore sacred practices to expand our awareness, enjoy deep surrender, and get to know and deepen our experience of energy healing. We will also have an online community forum and time in class to share experiences and ask questions.

This is not a western style yoga class- it is a course of consciousness based healing.

  • The Power Of The Breath- Pranayama techniques for healing and energy flow.
  • Supported Asana- Gentle and restful yoga postures to create space for transformation.
